Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has refused to rule out a return to the Gunners in the near future, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The 28-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving West Ham in the summer, and says it would be “the dream” to play at Arsenal once again.

“Listen, you never know,” said Wilshere. “There’s nothing, I’ve not spoken to anyone or anything but that would be the dream.

“I’m not stupid to know that there’s probably no chance of it happening but I’m an Arsenal man, I love the club and want to see the club do well,” said Wilshere.

The midfielder made 198 appearances for the club in a ten year spell, with much of his once-promising career heavily affected by a series of injuries.

Here is what some Arsenal fans said on Twitter about a potential reunion with their former player:

Treasured history with Arsenal

Wilshere certainly has plenty of history with his boyhood club, having become their youngest ever player at the age of 16 years and 256 days when he appeared against Blackburn in 2008.

The youngster went on to impress in the years to come, helping Arsene Wenger’s side lift back-to-back FA Cups in 2013/14 and 2014/15.

The midfielder also earned plaudits for his displays on loan at Bournemouth in 2016/17, as well as during his subsequent spell at West Ham, despite his two seasons being severely disrupted by injury.

Uncertain future ahead

The 28-year-old remains eager to get back playing football, and has been linked with moves to Rangers and several MLS clubs.

With Mikel Arteta’s men struggling to create goal scoring opportunities of late, a return to Arsenal for Wilshere cannot be ruled out.

The midfielder himself recently admitted that he is struggling to get to terms with the current situation of his former team-mate Mesut Ozil.
