Arsenal legend turned pundit Paul Merson says summer signing Willian has yet to produce a single good performance for his new club, speaking to Sky Sports.

The Brazilian joined Arsenal from London rivals Chelsea in August.

The 32-year-old flattered to deceive after registering two assists on his Arsenal debut.

Those assists, in the 3-0 victory at Fulham on the opening day of the season, had Gunners fans dreaming of a season fighting for a Champions League place.

However, despite being a regular starter under Mikel Arteta, Willian has yet to score this season. He has only added one more assist too – in the loss at Wolves last weekend.

Merson: ‘Willian has not got going’

Merson believes the Brazilian is massively underperforming in an Arsenal shirt.

He said: “I don’t know what’s happened to Willian? He was unplayable for Chelsea at times last season and then Arsenal sign him and you think: ‘What a signing this is. On a free transfer!’

“I can’t remember him having a good game yet. I’m a massive, massive fan of his (but) he’s just not got going.”

Worrying signs for Arteta

Willian’s recent struggles aren’t the only issue for Arteta. Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Wolves cemented the club’s worst ever start to a Premier League season.

The Gunners have just 13 points from ten league outings so far, their lowest tally since 1981-82.

They have won just four times, drawing once and losing the other five. Having won 1-0 at Old Trafford at the beginning of November, Arteta’s outfit are now without a victory in their last three league games.
