Yet another French tennis sensation looks to be living up to his fledging junior potential after reaching a career-high ranking in 2021. Here we take a look at Corentin Moutet in more detail, including who his parents are.

The 22-year-old is a former top-10 junior who has arrived on the ATP Tour with big pedigree and expectations.

Moutet reached his first ATP Tour final as a 20-year-old at the 2020 Doha event, becoming the youngest French finalist on tour since Richard Gasquet in 2006 (ATP).

He may have lost to Andrey Rublev in the final, but after qualifying for the event, he secured the biggest win of his career to date against Stan Wawrinka, a multiple Grand Slam champion.

The left-hander who idolises Rafael Nadal has reached the third round of the French Open and US Open, but he is also part of unwanted history at Roland Garros.

In 2020, Moutet was on the losing end of the longest match at the clay major for 16 years, when he had been on court for six hours and five matches in his first round clash.

Moutet has already shown he has the ability to beat the world’s best players when he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas, to lift his first Challenger trophy back in 2017. He has gone on to lift a further three Challenger events during the early stages of his career.

At Wimbledon in 2019, Moutet rallied from two sets down to defeat Grigor Dimitrov in round one.

Earlier in 2021, Moutet reached a career-high ranking of number 67 in the world after advancing to 2021 Estoril quarter-finals.

In his first tournament in 2021, which came at an ATP 250 event in Melbourne, Moutet reached the semi-finals and beat Dimitrov and Frances Tiafoe en-route.

Moutet has also beaten the likes of Daniel Evans, Denis Shapovalov, David Goffin, John Millman and Lloyd Harris in 2021.

Moutet began playing tennis at the age of three with his parents father, Rodolphe and mother Alexandra. His coach is Laurent Raymond.

With his compatriot Hugo Gaston, who is one year younger than him, having a strong end to the season with impressive performances at the ATP 1000 Masters event in Paris and the Next Gen Finals in Milan, Moutet could benefit from rising to the bar Gaston has set.

Gaston is currently ranked number 66 in the world and with the likes of Gasquet, Gilles Simon, Adrian Mannarino, Benoit Paire, Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, all entering the twilight stages of their careers, Gaston and Moutet, alongside Ugo Humbert are going to have to carry the French baton.
