Texas A&M has a Pringles obsession
Texas A&M has a Pringles obsession and fans are wondering what the deal is. After getting a win over in-state rival TCU in the College Station Regional, the team celebrated by eating the popular chips.
Texas A&M players have been eating the delicious snacks after scoring runs and players have been stuffing their faces with Pringles in the dugout.
Pringles and Texas A&M have been having plenty of fun about it on social media too, with the company promising to send over a whole box worth of chips:
What’s it all about?
Well, it began as a rallying cry from Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle to jump-start the offense, reward positive play and celebrate wins. Now it has stuck and, after every run scored, the Texas A&M team eats a Pringle to celebrate.
“The Pringles is just the face of it,” junior pitcher Micah Dallas said. “It’s fun and exciting but, when you really boil it down, it’s just about competing with each other and having fun and being hungry for more wins. It kind of gave us something to rally behind and loosen up a little bit and just play.”
Per My Aggie Nation, Dallas said: “There are three main reasons players get Pringles during a game: scoring runs, doing something positive for the team or when pitchers have a shutdown inning. When A&M wins, key players from that game and head coach Jim Schlossnagle get a Pringle.”
Coach Schlossnagle reportedly made the analogy his players needed to be hungry for wins and pointed out that, when you eat Pringles, you tend to have more than one. That’s the attitude he wanted his players to have towards wins – to get a taste of them and continue to gobble them up.
Various flavors of the chips have been spotted in and around the team, with Michah Dallas getting photographed with them. He even recreated Kobe Bryant’s famous photo with the NBA championship, but with a tube of Pringles:
Texas A&M will hope to keep popping Pringles with the season on the line agains the Longhorns on Sunday.
