What is Wander Franco’s neck tattoo? Fans noticed the hot prospect’s ink during the MLB game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox.

Who is Wander Franco?

Wander Franco is one of the hottest prospects in baseball. Barstool Sports said he is well on his way to being a “household name”.

“Switch hitter, great bat speed, great eye, really good fielder, and the power at the plate will come,” the publication wrote of him in February.

The 20-year-old infielder said he was “born to hit“, adding: “It’s something God gave me. Since I was a little boy, I’ve always been able to make good contact and hit the ball hard.”

Franco is from the Dominican Republic and began training to become a pro at just ten years old. He is the nephew of former big leaguers Erick and Willy Aybar.

Still a teenager, Franco signed for $3,825,000 with the Rays on 2 July 2017.

The 20-year-old made his MLB debut for the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

Adam Berry, writing for MLB.com, said the crowd “cheered just a little bit louder than usual from the moment he emerged from the dugout for his pre-game stretch and later demanded a curtain call from the team’s newest young star”.

Franco hit a three-run home run. When he approached the plate for his third at-bat in the fifth innings, the Rays had two men on while trailing 5-2.

He then hit a 362ft home run over the left field wall off Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez.

“Franco finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs,” wrote Yahoo Sports.

As well as his imperious battings skills, fans couldn’t help but notice the ink on Franco’s neck. But what is the tattoo?

In an article listing his skills, Barstool Sports then quipped: “You know what else he has? The worst tattoo in baseball.”

Like Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez, the youngster has an MLB logo inked on to his neck. Baez’s is on the base of his neck, while Franco’s is just under his left ear.

He had the ink done in anticipation of his MLB debut, in February, The Athletic reported.
