Are Theo Epstein and Jeffrey Epstein related? Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein has just stepped down from his role with the franchise. However, some fans are wondering whether he and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein are related. Let’s take a look at the rumour.

After nine years with the Cubs, Theo Epstein will be replaced by Jed Hoyer, who joined the club in 2011 as executive vice-president and general manager.

Theo Epstein played a crucial role during his time in Chicago, leading the franchise to the 2016 World Series title, their first in 108 years. His current contract was due to expire in 2021.

Are Theo Epstein and Jeffrey Epstein related?

Many people have been asking whether Theo Epstein and Jeffrey Epstein are related? It turns out the only thing they have in common is a surname. They aren’t related at all.

Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein died last in prison in August 2019. He had been arrested earlier in the year and charged with sex-trafficking minors in Florida and New York, among other offenses.

Jeffrey Epstein TV and movies

Jeffrey Epstein’s death has spawned several television shows and movies about the disgraced financier’s life.

HBO and Sony Pictures are currently creating separate series on Epstein, while Netflix documentary Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich premiered in May 2020.

US channel Lifetime released the film Surviving Jeffrey Epstein in August.

Why has Theo left the Cubs?

After almost a decade, Theo Epstein will leave the Cubs in the capable hands of Hoyer.

The former believes the latter is well equipped to take over, with Epstein also suggesting the long-term future of the franchise is better left to someone who will “be there beyond 2021”.

Epstein told the club’s website: “For the rest of my life, I will cherish having been part of the great Chicago Cubs organisation during this historic period.

“The organisation faces a number of decisions this winter that carry long-term consequences. Those types of decisions are best made by someone who will be here for a long period rather than just one more year.”

Cubs fans will wish Theo Epstein all the best after what he has achieved for the franchise.
