Declan Rice enjoyed another impressive international break with England, furthering his case to anchor Gareth Southgate’s midfield next summer.

The West Ham midfielder opened his goalscoring account in international football with a header to kickstart the 4-0 win over Iceland on Wednesday.

In his pre-match press conference before the game against Sheffield United this weekend, David Moyes gave Rice more praise.

He shared how impressed he was with Rice on England duty, and said he is benefiting from learning from the likes of Tottenham star Harry Kane with the Three Lions.

As per Football.London, Moyes said: “The big thing is that he is improving. He is learning an awful lot. His performance for England the other night was exceptional.

“His performance was o good. He is picking up from good people like Mark Noble, Harry Kane, I think for Declan it is continuing to learn and seeing what good practice looks like.

“We are trying to get him to take more responsibility. I couldn’t tell you (what others think) but I can only tell you the manager of West Ham thinks he is terrific.”

Rice is the kind of player English football tends to ignore and undervalue – he keeps it simple, winning the ball and passing it to a teammate and is improving all the time, as Moyes says.

He looks set to be England’s first choice holding midfielder for the European Championship.

That’s an impressive feat considering he only made his debut in the Nations League semi-finals in June 2019.

If he keeps taking guidance from the likes of Noble and Kane, he will just keep getting better and better.
