Here’s everything we know about Roger Federer’s sister Diana after the tennis legend paid thanks to her in his retirement announcement video.

Roger Federer has announced next week’s Laver Cup will be his last event on the ATP Tour, as the tennis legend calls time on his wonderful career.

The 41-year-old has been struggling with injuries for several years, with persistent knee problems preventing him from playing high-level tennis.

The 20-time Grand-Slam champion announced his plans to retire in an emotional video message posted to social media.

“To my tennis family and beyond,” he started the message with.” Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I’ve met along the way: my friends, my competitors, and most of all the fans who give the sport its life. Today, I want to share some news with all of you.”

“As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear.

“I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognise when it is time to end my competitive career.”

During the retirement video, the tennis great also thanked his family. “I would also like to thank and recognise my loving parents, my dear sister, without whom nothing would be possible.”

For many fans this was the first time learning about Roger Federer’s sister. Diana Federer, who is two years older than Roger having been born in 1979, is his only sibling.

There are not many photos of Diana online as she likes to remain private, although in the past she has appeared with her younger brother on magazine covers.

According to reports, she is a registered nurse in Switzerland, and is a mother to twin girls, just like Roger (who also has twin boys). Diana had non-identical(fraternal) twins, Emilie Zoe Federer and Ramon Vincent Federer, with twins running in the family.

Diana and Roger’s maternal grand-mother was also a twin.

Not a great deal is known about Diana. However, as both her and Roger spent time growing up in South Africa and Switzerland, she speaks English, French, German, Italian and Swedish.

Federer’s sister is rarely at his matches, but she did appear at the 2017 Swiss Indoors Event in Basel.
