Ahead of his Wimbledon quarterfinal vs Cameron Norrie, get to know David Goffin’s coach, Germain Gigounon, and his wife, Stephanie Tuccitto.
Belgian David Goffin has had somewhat of a resurgence in 2022, reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals after a three-year absence from the tournament. The 31-year-old started the year off ranked 74th, his lowest position since July 2014, but won the 2022 Grand Prix Hassan II after beating Alex Molčan.
Goffin then reached back-to-back third rounds at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters and the 2022 Mutua Madrid Open, improving his ranking to world no.48.
He reached the third round at the 2022 French Open and has done even better at Wimbledon. He beat 31st seed, Sebastian Baez, in the second round, and defeated 23rd seed Frances Tiafoe in a gruelling round of 16 matches that lasted over 4 1/2 hours.
He now plays Brit and home favourite, Cameron Norrie, for a place in the Wimbledon semifinal.

The Belgian was formerly coached by Thomas Johansson
From 2016-2020, David Goffin’s coach was former player Thomas Johansson. The Swede reached a career-high singles tanking of world no.7 in 2022 and won the Australian Open that same year. He remains the last Swedish man to win a major in singles.
He also won a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in men’s doubles. He became Goffin’s full-time coach in 2019 and lead him back into the world’s top ten in early 2020.
However, they went their separate ways later that year.

Who is David Goffin’s coach now?
David Goffin’s current coach is Germain Gigounon, a former player and lifelong friend of David’s.
Gigounon reached a career-high singles ranking of no. 191 in July 2015 and won 9 ITF singles titles and 13 ITF doubles titles in his career.
The 33-year-old started working with David in 2020 after previously coaching Ysaline Bonaventure and Yanina Wickmayer.
“We first met when we were six or seven, in one of the first tournaments we played around 25 years ago,” Gigounon told ATP Tour.
“We trained a lot together in the past with the [Belgian Tennis] Federation and were room-mates, even though we have different personalities. I was really happy to join the team as I was always watching and following him. Always in touch together. When he asked me in November to join his team full-time, I was delighted.”

Gigounon has helped David get back to basics
David caught covid that year and his form dropped, so Germain was brought on board to get him back to basics. With Germain’s help, David has steadily risen back up the rankings and recaptured some of his early-career form.
“I’m feeling more confident and I’m happier on the court,” Goffin said last year. “We’ve put in a lot of work together and refined a few strokes, developing a plan of how I want to play in the future.
“I feel more relaxed, confident in my choices and with my serve and on return. I do feel sharper in my movement too.”
David Goffin’s wife is Stephanie Tuccitto Goffin
David Goffin’s wife is Stephanie Tuccitto, who he has been with since 2012. Stephanie Tuccitto Goffin was also a tennis player in her youth but gave up the game for unknown reasons.
She would later attend the University of Liege, where she studied communications.
The couple was planning to get married in 2020 but the pandemic postponed their plans. They eventually tied the knot a year later and David shared the news on social media:
Stephanie is on Instagram @stephanie.tuccitto where she has over 10.7k followers. She often shares pictures with David.
She has also been in London this cheering David on at Wimbledon:

She will no doubt be in his box once again supporting him when he takes on Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinal.
