We take a look at Matteo Berrettini’s split with ex-girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic ahead of his US Open quarterfinal vs Casper Ruud.
Matteo Berrettini is into the quarterfinals of the 2022 US Open where he takes on Norway’s Casper Ruud. He has been ranked as high as world no.6 but is currently the 13th seed in New York.
The 26-year-old produced his best major performance when he reached the final of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
He will be looking to go one better in New York this week, where he has already come through a number of challenges. Matteo beat Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in five sets in the previous round, and beat Britain’s Andy Murray in four sets in the third round.
Matteo Berrettini’s relationship with ex-girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic
Ahead of his quarterfinal match, fans wanted to know who Matteo Berrettini’s girlfriend is. As of 2022, Matteo is single, but was recently in a relationship with fellow tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic.
Tomljanovic and Berrettini had been together since 2019 and were regularly spotted cheering each other on during their matches.
Their relationship first came to light during the 2019 US Open when Alja was seen in Berrettini’s box. There were also some pictures on their social media of them having fun together around New York City.
Tomljanovic was born on May 7, 1993 in Zagreb, Croatia but changed nationalities to Australian in 2019. She is currently ranked no.46 in the world but is a two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist.
She is also into the quarterfinals at the 2022 US Open where she takes on Ons Jabeur.
They couple split earlier this year
In June 2022, Matteo Berrettini revealed he and girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic had split up. Neither party has given a reason for the split, but Matteo did provide a little insight into his love life before the Queen’s final this year.
He told reporters: “Yeah, I’m single but it’s not like something that I am looking for, like, it’s not that I’m waking up and have to find love,” he said.
“It’s just something that is happening, it’s good for me, if it doesn’t, it’s another day, you know.
“But, yeah, overall, I’m spending more time with my team, I spent a lot of time with my family when I was injured, and I enjoyed a different kind of life a little bit.”
Both Alja and Matteo appear to be doing well though as they are both into the US Open quarterfinals.
