Here’s everything we know about Ben Shelton’s parents, including his dad Bryan Shelton. The elder Shelton is a former tennis player himself and head coach of the Florida Gators men’s team.

Ben Shelton is one of the emerging stars in American tennis. The 19-year-old takes on fifth seed Casper Ruud in the second round of the 2022 ATP Cincinnati Open on Wednesday, August 17. He is already scheduled to appear in the main draw of the upcoming US Open thanks to a wild card.

Shelton played college tennis for the Florida Gators and won the men’s singles title at the 2022 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships. The left-hander went on to reach two ATP Challenger Tour finals and two semi-finals before beating world No. 56 Lorenzo Sonego in the first round in Cincinnati.

The talented youngster was born on October 9, 2002 in Atlanta, Georgia. Ben Shelton’s parents are Lisa and Bryan Shelton and the latter is pretty famous in his own right.

Bryan Shelton is a former professional tennis player who reached World No.55. The elder Shelton played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets tennis team from 1985 to 1988. He also won the United States Amateur Championships in 1985.

The former right-hander won two singles titles during his career (at Newport in 1991 and 1992), and reached the mixed doubles final at the 1992 French Open, partnering Lori McNeil.

He retired in 1997 and immediately moved into coaching. He worked with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s tennis team, winning the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship in 2007. Bryan is now head coach of the Florida Gators men’s tennis team of the University of Florida, and coached them to the 2021 NCAA Championship.

Bryan and Ben Shelton have been working together

Ben Shelton is coached by his dad, Bryan. The teenager credits a lot of his recent success to his father.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” he told the ATP Tour. “It’s become a really good situation where (my dad) doesn’t even have to tell me things and I know what he’s thinking or he knows what I’m thinking. He’s really helped me work on developing my game and not worry about quick success, but being in it for the long run.”

The family lived in Atlanta until he was ten before moving to Gainesville, Florida, so Bryan and Ben could further their tennis careers. Bryan and Ben’s mother Lisa are no longer together.

Shelton now sits at No.197 in the ATP Rankings and can move as high as No.170 with a win in the second round against Casper Rudd.
