Andrew Castle was UK number 1 in singles tennis in 1986 and reached as high as world rank 80. Since retiring as a player, he has been part of the BBC commentary team.
Andrew has been the lead commentator at Wimbledon for many years. He is renowned for his commentary, including the long-awaited Andy Murray Wimbledon victory in 2013.

Andrew Castle’s personal life – wife, family and children
Andrew married his wife Sofia in 1991 and the couple have been together since.
He the Belfast Telegraph in 2015: “It was love at first sight when I saw her. She was in a Tokyo hotel where I was staying as an air hostess and I was there as part of the Davis Cup team.”

Andrew went as far as to say: “She was the best thing to come out of my tennis career.”
He added: “Everything I have achieved since wouldn’t have been possible without her.”
Andrew claimed meeting Sofia was a real turning point in his career too.
As a ‘working class lad’ he often felt the tennis authorities didn’t understand him and he would often play up and act the rebel. But Andrew says Sofia had a positive impact on him on and off the court.
How did he get into presenting?
Andrew told SpeakersCorner that he became a presenter when he realised his tennis career was over in 1992.
“I got into presenting when I called time on my tennis career in 1992.
“My wife was expecting our first child and I was 28 and looking to the future. Sky offered me a job commentating and co-presenting their tennis coverage.”
Andrew and Sofia has two daughters, Georgina and Claudia Castle. Georgina is an actress, while Claudia works in the commercial partnerships team at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

Between 2000 and 2010, Andrew was a presenter on ITV breakfast programme GMTV. He has also presented ITV daytime game show Divided, and taken part in Strictly Come Dancing and 71 Degrees North.
