This Wimbledon is looking like one Amanda Anisimova will never forget, as the American tennis star beats Coco Gauff to the final 16.

Anisimova and Gauff faced off in a grudge match on 2 July 2022, which saw Anisimova battles back for 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Describing the victory as “the most special day of my career,” this tournament is proving to put Amanda Anisimova back on top after a series of turbulent months which included losing her coach, Darren Cahill.

But with Wimbledon in full swing, you might be curious as to who is coaching Anisimova through one of her best tournaments to date. Let’s meet Team Anisimova.

Who is Amanda Anisimova’s coach at Wimbledon?

This Wimbledon tournament sees Amanda Anisimova and coach Darren Cahill reunite. This might come as a surprise given that Amanda Anisimova and Darren Cahill had a very public split just months ago.

Darren Cahill, 56, is an Australian tennis coach and former professional player. Cahill also works as an ESPN tennis analyst and is currently on the team reporting on this year’s Wimbledon.

Neither Anisimova nor Cahill have spoken on their work together at Wimbledon, however they have dropped hints on social media that Cahill is back on her team this tournament. A day before her showdown with Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova shared an image of herself with her team. Darren Cahill can be seen spotted in the centre, behind Anisimova.

The turbulent journey to find a new coach

The journey to find a tennis coach has not been easy for Amanda Anisimova. The 20-year-old tennis star was previously coached by her father, Konstantin Anisimov, however he unexpectedly passed away in August 2019, before Amanda had turned 18 years old.

Konstatin Anisimov died after an unexpected heart attack, age 52.

Being both father and coach, Konstantin Anisimov was deeply involved in Amanda’s life. One fan tweeted in support of Amanda Anisimova referencing the difficult years she has faced: “For her to still be out there is admirable.”

Things did not get easier for Amanda Anisimova in the following years, as her partnership with new coach Darren Cahill came to an unexpected halt.

Darren Cahill talks split from Anisimova

Renowned tennis coach Darren Cahill was partnered with Simona Halep for six years until they parted ways back in September 2021.

Several months later, at the start of 2022, Cahill and Amanda Anisimova struck a deal. Cahill would coach Anisimova for a short stint before he suddenly announced a need to part ways.

After the first training session in Indian Wells back in March, Cahill abruptly quit his job as Anisimova’s coach. He cited mental exhaustion as one of the primary driving factors leading him to quit.

Tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg spoke with Cahill about the abrupt split. “It had nothing to do with Anisimova, Cahill told me, just that he’s been struggling particularly with tough quarantine rules around travel to Australia. Cahill said he’s going back to Australia soon to rest,” Rothenberg tweeted.

But it appears there is no bad blood between Cahill and Anisimova as the two reunite for Wimbledon 2022.
