Is there a Sun King tease in the Moon Knight trailer? Fan theory explored

A new trailer has dropped for Marvel’s hotly-anticipated Disney+ series Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. While Hawke is confirmed to be playing Arthur Harrow in the series, many eagle-eyed fans have their own theories that he is playing the Sun King.

We take a closer look at the clues in the trailer as well as breaking down the origins of the Sun King.

A new trailer drops for Marvel’s Moon Knight

The new series drops on Disney+ on 30 March 2022, which revolves around Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight, played by Oscar Isaac. After coming close to death his life is spared and he is given superpowers by the Egyptian god Khonshu.

The series is expected to look in-depth at mental health issues as this is a character who has Dissociative Identity Disorder. He has alters called Steven Grant and Jake Lockley who sometimes switch and take over his body.

In the new trailer, we get a glimpse of Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow. However, many fans are speculating that his character could be a combination of Harrow and another Moon Knight villain the Sun King.

Who is the Sun King in Marvel’s Moon Knight?

Ethan Hawke is playing Arthur Harrow in Moon Knight. Harrow is a mad scientist, who was on the cusp of winning a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in medicine. However, it was revealed that his research had connections to Nazi experiments in Auschwitz in World War II. As an expert in ‘pain theory’ Harrow also previously abducted people for his own research.

He first appeared in the 1985 Moon Knight comic Konshu #2. In the most recent Moon Knight trailer, he tells Marc Spector: “There’s chaos in you” and that he should: “Embrace the chaos”.

However, fans think that Hawke is not just playing Arthur Harrow but that he could also be playing the Sun King. This character is a well-known antagonist for Moon Knight.

The Sun King, aka Patient 86, appeared in the comics in 2017 and remembers little about his life except he was from the south of the US and he is a Christian. He is an amnesiac who does not know his real name, and all of his early memories are a blur. However, he has powers such as pyrokinesis which he used to burn people who abused him in his childhood.

He was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder and believes that he is a reincarnation, or earthly manifestation, of the Egyptian sun god Amon Ra, who is opposed to Konshu. This is where the name Sun King comes in.

Fans go mad with Sun King theories

Ethan Hawke has previously noted that he took inspiration for his character from cult leader David Koresh. Many fans think this points to him playing the Sun King who had some of these qualities in the comics, as we can see a crowd of people bowing to him in the latest trailer.
