Former South Africa speedster Dale Steyn has made a claim about Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United while speaking about Virat Kohli potentially leaving RCB.
Kohli announced over the weekend that he will be stepping down as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore at the end of this IPL campaign. He promised that he will not play for a different franchise, but Steyn believes there’s a chance he could join a team like the Delhi Capitals.
The South African pointed out David Beckham leaving Manchester United and Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford as examples that a sportsman doesn’t necessarily have to stay at one place throughout his career.
Steyn: Delhi Capitals could try to sign Virat Kohli
Speaking on ESPNCricInfo, Steyn said: “It does boil down to the coaches and the RCB management at the end of the day. It doesn’t matter how good a player you are, you could see yourself walking.
“We’ve seen Chris Gayle leave the team. We have seen David Beckham leave Manchester United after playing for an entire lifespan for them. Cristiano Ronaldo recently returned to Man United. You don’t know; you have these famous people playing for their clubs for a long time and who knows. Virat is originally from Delhi and for all we know, they (Delhi Capitals) could say ‘come finish with us’. You just never know.
“It is nice to know that he has committed himself to the team and he wants to be there to see an IPL trophy come to RCB. He has given so many years and I think that is in the back of his mind too that he is not going to leave until he wins an IPL for RCB.”
Will RCB let Kohli leave?
The 32-year-old revealed in his statement that he is stepping down as the skipper to manage his workload. He did the same with the Indian national T20 team as well, and there’s no way anyone can ever criticise him for his decision.
Kohli made it absolutely clear in his statement that he has no interest in playing for any other franchise apart from RCB. That is amazing news for fans of the Bangalore based side, who have adored him for years now.
Ronaldo may have returned to Manchester United this summer but there’s no way Kohli will leave RCB to join his local side Delhi in the near future.
