Another month, another award for Bruno Fernandes. It was announced today the Manchester United midfielder has won his fourth Premier League player of the month (POTM) award.

That’s a remarkable feat considering the Portuguese only joined the club a year ago. Only five players in Premier League history have won more monthly awards than the Manchester United man.

The question is, did he deserve this one? Well, not in the eyes of West Ham fans.

Fernandes undoubtedly had an outstanding December. He registered three goals and three assists to lift United into title contention.

Yet there’s another midfielder who also stood out – West Ham’s Tomas Soucek.

Should Soucek have won?

Admittedly Soucek’s tally of three goals is less impressive. However, he does operate from a far deeper area of the pitch so comparing goal contributions with Fernandes is hardly fair.

Instead, it’s Soucek’s overall performances that have attracted plenty of admirers.

The Czech international has made a major impact since arriving at the London Stadium in January 2020. He has been a major factor in turning the Hammers from relegation candidates into European hopefuls.

Some of the club’s supporters feel Soucek would have been a more than worthy winner of the POTM award for December.

Some fans took to Twitter to voice their anger:

Soucek starts 2021 with a bang

Regardless of awards, Soucek has already made an excellent start to 2021. He netted the winner in the victory over Everton on New Year’s Day.

The 25-year-old has scored five league goals already this season and has swiftly established himself as one of the most dangerous players in the league from set-pieces.

Hectic week ahead

West Ham will hope Soucek can continue his spectacular form in what is a hectic week ahead.

The Irons face Burnley tomorrow before hosting West Brom on Tuesday night.
