Newcastle have agreed a loan deal in principle to sign Manchester United defender Brandon Williams, according to the Shields Gazette.
Williams has apparently been told he can leave Old Trafford on loan this month and Newcastle are among a host of clubs interested.
The report says the Magpies are right at the top of the list of teams chasing Williams.
Jamal Lewis has struggled since his arrival from Norwich during the summer, which is a factor in the interest in Williams.
The report also says Jetro Willems is still on Newcastle’s radar after his loan spell last season.
It’s apparently unlikely both Williams and Willems would be signed in the same window.
Signing either one or both would apparently require Newcastle to free up space in their 25-man Premier League squad.
Williams can play at right back but has operated on the left of defence in most of his games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
