Everton duo Ben Godfrey and Tom Davies missed the final game of England’s Under 21 European Championship campaign last night.
The Young Lions left themselves a mountain to climb, needing to win by two goals against Croatia.
They also needed Portugal to beat Switzerland, which they duly did.
Goals from Ebere Eze and Curtis Jones had England on the brink of going through, before their hearts were broken by a screamer in the 91st minute.
STEVEN GERRARD TO ASTON VILLA IS WRONG.
That means that Aidy Boothroyd’s squad won’t be returning in the summer for the knockout stages, with Croatia going through to play Spain.
Everton fans won’t be too bothered about all that though, they just want Godfrey and Davies to be fit with the Echo reporting they both failed late fitness tests yesterday.
The Toffees are back in action on Monday night, when they face Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.
