Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs fears that his old side may not win the Premier League again for another 20 years.
Speaking on The Greatest Game podcast, the Wales manager expressed his concerns to Jamie Carragher.
“It could be 15, 20 years before you know it, especially if (Jurgen) Klopp and (Pep) Guardiola stick around.”
“They have got the resources and the players so we have Liverpool to look at where the last time when they won it in 1990 they thought we’ll win it again soon,” he said.
Fall from grace
Giggs was referring to how Liverpool had to wait 30 years in between league triumphs, a run which the club ended in emphatic fashion last season.
It seems that the 46-year-old believes that United could suffer a similar fall from grace.
The Red Devils have not won the title since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013. Giggs himself retired a year later, and United have failed to mount a serious title challenge in the years that have followed.
Managers come and go
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have all tried to arrest the side’s slump, but with little success.
Mourinho achieved the best league position, leading United to second place in 2017/18. However, United faltered badly in the following campaign, and the Portuguese coach was sacked in December 2018.
Ole’s at the wheel
Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in charge, as he prepares for his 100th game at the helm this weekend.
United lost two of their opening three league matches, but have turned their form around in recent weeks.
Despite currently lying 15th in the table, they are just six points off top spot with a game in hand. They have the chance to close that gap in their upcoming fixtures.
Solskjaer’s side host Arsenal on Sunday, before travelling to early pace-setters Everton next weekend.
