Everton are reportedly interested in Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, who could be a great option for the Merseyside club..

According to football website 90Min, the Toffees are one of several teams tracking the 22-year-old following his successful season in Scotland.

The article claims that Leicester City are leading a host of clubs in eyeing the centre-back, but there is interest from Premier League rivals Everton, Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The report adds that AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also potential suitors.

Everton may have to beat off plenty of competition for the Celtic defender, but manager Carlo Ancelotti should seriously consider him when the transfer window re-opens if they can get him at a decent price.

Would Ajer be a good signing for Everton?

Everton are in need of an extra centre-back at Goodison Park to compete with current options Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate.

Ajer is a highly-rated defender who has been transformed from a midfielder to a centre-back and he’s got 14 senior international caps for Norway already.

The 6ft 5 colossus has made 49 Celtic appearances across all competitions this campaign and chipped in with four goals too, which has seen a number of teams alerted to him.

The ball-playing centre-back has shown he has a great range of passing and is an aggressive defender with plenty of potential.

He is certainly not the finished article yet aged 22, but has experience in European football and could be exactly the type of player that could thrive under Ancelotti.

It’s unclear who Everton’s main two centre-backs will be moving forward and there could be a good chance of Ajer developing into a long-term solution if they sign him.
