West Ham and Newcastle United are among the latest Premier League clubs to express an interest in flying Mexican winger Orbelin Pineda.

According to reports, Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on the 24-year-old prospect.

Pineda plays for CD Cruz Azul in the Liga MX, the top divison in Mexico. He has scored eight goals and made seven assists in 68 games for the club.

Here are four further facts about the in-demand winger:

Mexico international

Pineda has made 23 appearances for the Mexico national team, having also played for Mexico’s under-20s.

He made his debut in September 2016 and scored his first goal for his country against El Salvador in 2017.

Pineda, from club to club

Pineda began his career at Queretaro FC in 2014, who also play in the top division of Mexico.

In 2015, Pineda signed for Club Deportivo Guadalajara, where he scored ten goals in 128 appearances.

Club Deportivo Guadalajara are one of two clubs to never have been relegated from Mexico’s top division.

Pineda played with Ronaldinho

In 2014, when Pineda was playing for Queretaro FC, legendary Brazilian star Ronaldinho signed for the club at the age of 34.

Pineda told ESPN in 2015 about the incredible privilege he felt playing and training with Ronaldinho.

He said: “He always told me every time I received the ball in the midfield to always go forward, never backwards. To be decisive in the final third.

“He always told me that and I always accepted his instructions. Once I got the ball in the midfield, I didn’t care about anything else, just to be decisive.”

Wanted by European clubs

Pineda has attracted the attention of a number of Premier League clubs after his impressive performances in Mexico.

However, the Mexican is reportedly also being tracked by Dutch clubs PSV Eindhoven and Ajax. Just to add to the competition, Monaco and FC Porto are also said to be interested.
