Who is Patimat Nurmagomedova, wife of MMA legend Khabib Nurmagomedov? The fighter has just announced his retirement from the sport, with a perfect match record of 29-0. Following his last performance, fans are wondering about the fighter’s personal life.
Who is Patimat Nurmagomedova?
One thing is for sure: no one knows very much about her. Patimat Nurmagomedova deliberately lives a secretive life, away from public attention.
Despite her husband, MMA champion fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, being the most popular person on Instagram in Russia (he currently has 24.5m followers), no one outside of their close circle of friends and family has seen Patimat’s face. But of course, that hasn’t stopped people from prying.
Khabib and Patimat Nurmagomedov’s wedding
Khabib very rarely shares any information about his wife, Patimat and her face is famously not known to the public. The only pictures of her that have surfaced to the internet are from the pair’s wedding, where Mrs Nurmagomedova wore a face covering.
The marriage allegedly took place in Patimat’s hometown, Kirovaul village, in the far southwestern reaches of Russia. Kirovaul is a very small village, with only 200 inhabitants, close to the region’s capital, Makhachkala. The area, officially the Republic of Dagestan, shares land borders with Azerbaijan and Georgia.
So far, the pair have two children, one girl (5) and one boy (2), named Fatima and Magomed.
Nurmagomedov’s personal life
Khabib comes from a family of fighters. His father Abdulmanap, was a judo black belt, Ukrainian National Sambo champion, and National Master of Sports in freestyle wrestling. Ironically, his father didn’t want Khabib to pursue sports. Instead, he wanted him to study.
But Khabib had other ideas. By 2005, Khabib had convinced his father to train him in Mixed Martial Arts. Three years later, the young fighter was making his own professional MMA debut.
In the 15 years since, Nurmagomedov has set a host of records, and earned a place in the UFC history books. So why is he quitting the sport now?
Why did Khabib Nurmagomedov’s career end?
Following his victory against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, Khabib announced that he is retiring from MMA fighting. He laid down his gloves in the centre of the ring and said that he had just fought his last fight.
Apparently, Khabib is stepping down because of a promise he made to himself when he started fighting: that he would not fight without his father.
Earlier this year, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov died aged 57 as a result of coronavirus-related symptoms. On his Instagram page, Khabib wrote the following:
