Juventus are set to terminate the contract of midfielder Sami Khedira according to reports from Goal.com, but despite links Manchester United should give him a wide berth.

The German international has one year left on his current deal in Turin. However, new boss Andrea Pirlo does not view him as part of his long-term plans.

The nine-year reigning Serie A champions have already brought in Weston McKennie and Arthur this summer, meaning 33-year-old Khedira is surplus to requirements.

Manchester United reportedly interested in Sami Khedira

It is not yet clear where he will go if he leaves, but the Sun have linked Sami Khedira to Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side already have Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic as options in the World Cup Winner’s position.

But the former Real Madrid man could provide experienced balance to a midfield that already has Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and new signing Donny van de Beek as more offensive options.

Deja-vu for Manchester United

For many Manchester United fans rumours linking them with Khedira will represent something of a throwback.

In 2013 the Red Devils made a deadline day attempt to sign him during David Moyes ill-fated spell in charge.

Instead the club was only able to bring in Marouane Fellaini, while Khedira went on to win the Champions League and the World Cup that season.

Khedira not the Man for United –

That was of course seven years ago, and the German has declined severely in the time since.

After leaving Real Madrid for Juventus in 2015 he has been ravaged by injuries. Khedira has played just 35 times since the start of the 2018/19 season. His wages are also said to be in the region of £5.5m per year.

After a disappointing window so far, United would do well to avoid signing the veteran.
