Nottingham Forest geared up for their season to restart by tying winger Sammy Ameobi to the club for another year.
The former Bolton Wanderers man arrived at the City Ground on a free transfer last summer and will now remain with the club until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
It was thought in the eyes of some supporters that Ameobi would be a squad player when he arrived. That hasn’t been the case, however, with his performances on the left-hand side of attack really catching the eye.

During his maiden campaign at Forest, he has scored three goals and registered eight assists; with Sabri Lamouchi’s men sat fifth in the Championship.
With football breaking for the global health pandemic, several Forest players were facing an uncertain future. Ben Watson and Michael Dawson are both out of contract next month, whilst Ameobi was also in limbo.
The 28-year-old is now sorted though and he can relax when football returns, safe in the knowledge that he has a part to play at Forest next season.
Doubts
Checking in at the City Ground around a year ago, Ameobi’s signing was met with an underwhelming response by some supporters.
Despite arriving on a free, some were pretty defiant in their suggestion that he wouldn’t prove a hit at the club.
If one man offers a suggestion that people should watch a new recruit in action before passing judgement, however, it’s Ameobi.

Ameobi has by no means been Forest’s best player this season. Matty Cash, Ben Watson, Brice Samba and Samba Sow have all arguably been better individually over a consistent period of time.
There is no doubting that the trickster deserves his deal though. His place on the left-hand side of Forest’s attack has quickly been cemented despite competition for places.
Forest have not lost a game when Ameobi has scored or claimed an assist and. His form has been so good that the Reds chose to loan out Albert Adomah during the January transfer window.
Lamouchi’s team are still in the hunt for a place in next season’s Premier League and Ameobi will play a big part in whether Forest’s goal can be achieved.
With the left-footer now in place for next season, the Reds will hope others follow suit. Watson has been brilliant and deserves a new deal; whilst there is enough to suggest that Dawson has a part to play in some capacity at the club.

Things have changed at the football club over the last couple of years and Forest not losing their best players is ideal.
Ameobi agreeing to stay follows Matty Cash, Joe Worrall and Ryan Yates all signing new deals during the 2019/20 campaign.
Of course, if a big-money offer comes in from the Premier League for any player then naturally they will have a price on their heads.
Agreeing an extension with Ameobi is a positive step in the right direction; offering hope that the club’s better players are keen to stick around Trentside for the foreseeable.
