We reveal Van Jefferson’s parents after the Rams wide receiver scored a touchdown against his dad Shawn Jefferson during a recent game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Parents are usually very supportive of their children, but all bets were off during the Monday Night Football game between the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams.

That’s because Van Jefferson, a wide receiver for the Rams, was facing off against his dad, Shawn Jefferson, who is receivers coach for the Cardinals. And it was the son who came out on top as, with the scores tied at 13-13, Van Jefferson scored a 52-yard touchdown off a dime of a pass from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford to give LA the lead.

Van Jefferson scores TD against his father

Shawn Jefferson had the best view in the house as he watched on from the Cardinals’ bench, and didn’t look best pleased with his son for scoring a touchdown.

The Rams ultimately came out on top, winning the game 30-23. Shawn Jefferson was no doubt proud of his son, though, and the two shared a touching moment after the game.

Van was seen handing his dad a game ball before the two hugged it out. Van Jefferson reportedly said he hoped his father would be proud of the player he had become, even though they’re standing on opposing sidelines.

More on Shawn Jefferson’s NFL career

Jefferson has been with the Cardinals since January 2021, replacing David Raih under Kliff Kingsbury. Previously, Shawn was with the New York Jets where he served as assistant head coach and wide receivers coach. He has also spent time coaching the Dolphins, Titans and Lions.

Shawn Jefferson also played in the NFL, after playing college football at the University of Central Florida. He was selected by the Houston Oilers in the ninth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. Jefferson made two Super Bowl appearances during his career (Super Bowl XXIX and Super Bowl XXXI) and finished his career with 470 receptions for 7,023 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Van Jefferson’s parents explored

Van Jefferson’s parents are Shawn and Marla Jefferson. Not a great deal his known about Van’s mother, Marla, although her and Shawn have three children – Van, Paige and Faith Jefferson.

Shawn did, however, share a photo of his wife Marla recently on her birthday. He uploaded another one in June with the caption: “Great food & great view with the missus.”

The recent meeting between Van and Shawn Jefferson wasn’t the first time the father and son have faced off in the NFL. Shawn was on the Jets’ coaching staff last year when they upset the Rams late on in the season, and has a 2-1 record against his son Van.

Speaking ahead of their first game against each other in the NFL, Van said: “This has been a goal since I was a kid, and he knew that and he supported my dream. He always made sure to watch and correct me on things, mistakes and stuff like that, so he’s always been there.”
