We find out more about Sean Payton’s son Connor and daughter Meghan after the NFL veteran and New Orleans Saints head coach stepped down from his role.

“We coach, we coach, we coach, and at some point they tell you to leave,” Payton said after announcing his decision. “As difficult as being fired is, it sure seems easier to thank everyone and move on your merry way.”

“I still have a vision for doing things in football and I’ll be honest with you, that might be coaching again at some point. I don’t think it’s this year, I think maybe in the future. That’s not where my heart is right now.”

Payton led the Saints to the playoffs nine times, winning Super Bowl XLIV.

Home Team trailer starring Kevin James drops

Back in December Netflix dropped the trailer for Home Team, a film about former Saints coach Sean Payton. The Netflix film is produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions and is scheduled for release on the streaming platform on 28 January 2022. Watch the trailer below:

What was Bountygate and what does it have to do with the movie?

The upcoming Netflix movie is based on the 2012 season when Payton was suspended by the NFL following the Bountygate scandal and spent a year helping to coach his son instead. The Netflix film features Kevin James as Sean Payton, plus Taylor Lautner as his son’s football coach. It is rumoured Payton makes a cameo appearance in the film.

Payton was handed a one-year suspension by the NFL banning him from coaching for the entire 2012 season. With time on his hands, Payton served as offensive coordinator for his son Connor’s sixth-grade team in Argyle, Texas, the Liberty Christian Warriors.

The Warriors reached the play-offs, before losing in the league final.

Bountygate was the nickname given to the furore surrounding a plan to give cash rewards to New Orleans Saints players for injuring opponents, as reported by the Express.

More on Connor Payton

As per Marca, the film focuses on Payton and his relationship with his son Connor, a “bond that will be strengthened thanks to the circumstances that lead the protagonist to become assistant coach of his son’s sixth-grade football team”.

Sean Payton was married to Beth Shuey, who Sean met while he was coaching at Indiana State University. The couple had two children, daughter Meghan, born in 1997, and son Connor, born in 2000. The family lived in Mandeville, Louisiana, when Sean became the Saints’ head coach until Payton and his wife Beth filed for divorce in 2012.

Not much is known about Connor Payton, other than the fact his famous dad coached his sixth-grade football team in 2012. He appeared to play football for Liberty Christian School in Fort Worth and shared his Junior Year highlights in 2018.

He has uploaded many photos of himself when he was younger with his dad. One includes a tribute to Sean on his birthday last year.

According to his social media, Connor lives in Fort Worth, Texas, and remains close to his dad.
