San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garappolo limped out of the NFL game last night with an injury. What happened to Garoppolo in the match, and how long could he be out for?

Jimmy Garoppolo injury update

Garappolo was selected as starting QB for the 49ers game at the Seattle Seahawks.

However, he was withdrawn from play at half-time and replaced by Trey Lance for the remainder of the game.

After the 28-21 defeat to the Seahawks, Garoppolo revealed he suffered an injury to his right calf during the first half of the match.

The 49ers were hoping Garoppolo could return to the field, but Lance played the entire second half.

Lance provided two touchdowns as the 49ers recorded their second defeat of the season.

Their record is currently 2-2, and they sit bottom of the NFC West rankings.

What happened to Garoppolo?

Coach Kyle Shanahan shed some light on the circumstances around Garoppolo’s injury post-game.

He explained the QB had informed the bench he thought he had been stepped on during play.

Garoppolo tried to run off the knock, but “he just couldn’t push it off”, Shanahan explained.

“He played for a while with it. We didn’t think it was that bad at the time.”

How long could he be out for?

To discover the full extent of the injury to Garoppolo, he will be sent for an MRI scan.

During his media post-game, Garoppolo was optimistic it wouldn’t be a long lay-off, perhaps only a “couple of weeks”.

“I’ve been in this situation too many times,” he explained.

“It’s getting real old. So, just one of those things that’s part of the business.”

The 49ers next game is away at the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday night.
