Fans have started playing Weddle, the new NFL version of Wordle, and sharing their results on social media.

Wordle is the web-based word game phenomenon you’ve no doubt heard of by now. It started off small but at the start of 2022 gained worldwide popularity, eventually being acquired by the New York Times, where it is now hosted.

The premise is simple: you have to guess a five-letter word within six attempts. The clues are provided from green squares for the right letter, right place, and yellow for the right letter, wrong place. Grey indicates it is not in the answer at all. We’ve seen a number of sports-based versions of Wordle recently, and now we have Weddle, an NFL version.

Weddle is the new NFL Wordle game

If you have a few hours to spare and you’re an NFL fan, Weddle is here to test your knowledge. Weddle is fundamentally the same as Wordle, the only difference being you have to guess an NFL player’s name.

The game is named after free safety Eric Weddle, who came out of retirement last season to help the Los Angeles Rams win Super Bowl LVI. Weddle retired for a second time shortly after his Super Bowl success, but at least he now has Weddle to keep himself busy.

Here’s how to play it

  • Guess the NFL player in as few tries as possible
  • The solution player will be a current fantasy player, so only WRs, RBs, QBs, and TEs
  • After each guess, the color of the tiles will change depending on how close your guess was to the player
  • In any column, green represents a match
  • In the division column yellow represents the correct conference but not the correct division
  • For the height, age, and weight column yellow represents that the correct number is within 2 (inches, years, numbers) of the player

The game can be found at

People are already playing the game and sharing their results to social media.

There’s an NBA version called Poeltl

There’s also an NBA version of the game called Poeltl, which follows the same premise albeit with a slight difference.

You have eight guesses to guess a current NBA player based on their silhouette. You’re given their team, conference, division, position, height, age and jersey number. If you correctly guess one of those, it’s a green square, and you’re also given hints along the way to inform your next guess.

And if that’s not enough, there’s even a baseball version called WARdle.
