NFL fans watching the Monday Night Football game were asking why the Seahawks wore lime green. The bold uniforms seemed to divide opinion online.

Week 1 of the 2022-2023 NFL season is officially in the books, with the Seahawks and Broncos rounding off the weekend’s action in the Monday Night Football game.

Most of the talk heading into the matchup was around new Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson spent a decade with the Seahawks, winning Super Bowl XLVIII over the Broncos, before joining Denver earlier this year.

The QB returned to Seattle to face the Seahawks for the first time, although it was not the result he would have wanted. Quarterback Geno Smith lead Seattle to victory with two passing TDs as they overcame the Broncos 17-16.

Fans react to Seahawks wearing lime green in Week 1

While there was plenty of football to digest, many online fans struggled to get over the Seahawks’ lime green uniforms.

Instead of going with their usual blue on blue home look, the Seahawks rocked their “Action Green” colorway to somewhat underwhelming reviews from fans:

The Seahawks have an impressive record in Action Green

Fans wanted to know why the Seahawks wore lime green as opposed to their usual blue. The lime green first started when the Seahawks joined the NFL Color Rush initiative in 2016, with the club unveiling its Action Green alternate uniform.

The NFL Color Rush was a promotion done in conjunction with the NFL and Nike to promote so-called “color vs. color” matchups, with teams in matchup-specific uniforms primarily airing on Thursday Night Football.

The promotion was officially discontinued for the 2018 season, but many teams, including the Seahawks, continue to wear the Color Rush uniforms and promote them heavily.

Seattle first debuted the uniform in a 24-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on the Week 15 Thursday Nighter in 2015.

Since then, the Seahawks have worn Action Green tops with matching green pants on just a handful of occasions. With the latest win over the Broncos, they are now 8-1 in Action Green.

There’s really no reason why they still wear the lime green uniforms after the NFL Color Rush was scrapped. However, it’s likely the Action Green promotion is good for building excitement among fans ahead of a big game, like the one against the Broncos in Week 1.

That combined with a win seemed to go down a storm with diehard Seahawks fans:

Maybe they should play in lime green every week?
