After their disappointing loss on Super Wildcard Weekend, Cowboys fans are feeling particularly aggrieved about their team’s direction. Jimmy Johnson’s tweet about Dak Prescott and Tony Romo went viral, and Dallas fans were all saying the same thing.

The San Francisco 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys 23-17 at AT&T Stadium on Sunday in the 2022 NFL Wild Card Game. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 254 yards for one touchdown and one interception, meaning Dallas’ wait for a Super Bowl win continues.

The Cowboys’ last success came under Jimmy Johnson between 1989 and 1993, when they won consecutive Super Bowl titles in Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII. Jimmy Johnson’s recent tweet about Dak Prescott and Tony Romo caused a bit of a stir online.

After their loss to the 49ers, FOX NFL shared a graphic about Dak Prescott and Tony Romo’s playoff record. Both Dallas quarterbacks have the same record (1-3) through their first six seasons as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback.

Jimmy Johnson shared his disappointment in Dallas’ lack of playoff success, replying to the graphic with the words ‘A shame…”.

Johnson seems to be implying that both Prescott and Romo have underperformed and the Cowboys should have done a lot better. The Cowboys went 12-5 in the regular season this year, and made a mess of the final play against the Niners.

NFL Twitter reacted to Johnson’s tweet, allocating a lot of the blame on Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who Johnson famously came into conflict with during his tenure.

Fans on Cowboys Zone, a Dallas fan’s forum echoed the sentiment. One person wrote: ‘Seeing Jimmy tweet this is depressing. Seeing Michael Irvin having to sit on ESPN and get ridiculed for 2 hours is depressing. Not only do our fans deserve better, but so do our legends.’

‘Sad, until we get a real GM, look for this to unfortunately continue,’ another added.

Dak Prescott apologizes for comments about officials

It’s certainly been a difficult week for the Dallas QB following the tough loss. In the days since their defeat, Dak Prescott has apologized for his comments about fans throwing bottles and debris at officials on Sunday.

Prescott initially said it was “sad” that fans were throwing rubbish at the team but when he was told it was aimed at officials, he said “credit to them”.

On Tuesday, he apologized, writing: “I deeply regret the comments I made regarding the officials after the game on Sunday. I was caught up in the emotion of a disappointing loss and my words were uncalled for and unfair.

“I hold the NFL Officials in the highest regard and have always respected their professionalism and the difficulty of their jobs. The safety of everyone who attends a game or participates on the field of a sporting event is a very serious matter.

“That was a mistake on my behalf, and I am sorry.”
