The Los Angeles Rams cruised to victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 1 of the new NFL season. Before the game, Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey introduced himself as having attended RPT college. Here’s the meaning of Jalen Ramsey’s RPT college comment explained.
Los Angeles Rams beat Chicago Bears in season opener
The Los Angeles Rams got their season under way with an emphatic 34-14 rout of the Bears on Week 1.
On his Rams debut on Sunday in SoFi Stadium, Matthew Stafford threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns.
Stafford’s debut came after a blockbuster trade last January that sent quarterback Jared Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round selection to the Detroit Lions in exchange for the veteran quarterback.
Stafford was the talk of the game but defensively the Rams – including Jalen Ramsey – flashed their physicality all night.
Jalen Ramsey announces himself from RPT, confuses fans
As is customary in the NFL, players are announced with the college they went to.
Jalen Ramsey played college football at Florida State, winning the National Championship over Auburn as a freshman.
However, against the Rams on Week 1, Ramsey introduced himself as having attended RPT college.
Naturally, fans were a little perplexed why he didn’t claim FSU in the line-up intro.
What is the meaning of Jalen Ramsey’s RPT college?
RPT, in regards to Jalen Ramsey’s college, stands for Ramsey Performance Training.
Ramsey Performance Training is Lamont Ramsey’s (Jalen’s dad’s) company, which helped trained Jalen and his brother Jamal when they were younger.
An overview of RPT reads: “Ramsey Performance Training (RPT), one of the best ‘off season’ conditioning programmes for athletes, is located in the heart of Middle Tennessee.
“The programme, founded by Lamont Ramsey more than 20 years ago, began as a means for Ramsey to train sons Jamal and Jalen to improve their athletic abilities.”
A feature on Jalen explains the process of working out and conditioning at RPT.
“Much of that process took place at Ramsey Performance Training, which still runs out of Lamont’s garage to remind those who pay a visit that a state-of-the-art facility isn’t needed for greatness.”
By claiming RPT was his college, not FUS, Jalen Ramsey is essentially saying that’s where he honed his craft and became the player he is today.
Cornerback speaks on Stafford’s debut
Ramsey is obviously one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, and one of the most highly paid.
After the game against the Bears, he spoke about QB Matthew Stafford’s debut.
“He did amazing,” Ramsey said after the game.
“His command, his swag, like everything was great. That’s like a debut that probably should go down in history just the way he played.”
