We find out more about Daryle Lamonica’s wife and family after the sad news was announced that the former Raiders quarterback has passed away.
Daryle Lamonica, a legendary Raiders quarterback, has died at the age of 80. Lamonica is one of the greatest players in AFL history and was nicknamed “The Mad Bomber” because of his love of deep passes.
Lamonica led the Raiders to four consecutive division titles between 1967 and 1970, along with a Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl II. He was twice named AFL Most Valuable Player (MVP), in addition to receiving three AFL All-Star selections, two NFL Pro Bowl selections, and two first-team All-AFL honours.
Raiders pay tribute to Lamonica
“The Raiders Family is deeply saddened to learn of Daryle Lamonica’s passing earlier today,” the team said in a statement. “The Raider Nation will forever miss his easy-going nature and warm smile. Our deepest condolences are with his wife Mary, son Brandon, the rest of the Lamonica family, teammates and friends.”
A family member confirmed the death on Thursday but declined to comment further. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Lamonica died of natural causes at his Fresno home on Thursday morning.

Lamonica’s wife was Mary. They had been a couple since 1970 so had been together for more than 50 years. They have a son, Brandon. He was born in 1977 and is an alumnus of Fresno State, which he attended on a golf scholarship.
Brandon currently works in real-estate development in Fresno. Daryle also has a sister, Beverly.
