During Game 2 of the Wizards’ first-round series against the 76ers, Russell Westbrook appeared to injure his right ankle.

As he headed to the locker room to receive treatment, a fan threw popcorn at Westbrook. Needless to say, Russ reacted strongly to the situation.

Security guards and staff in the arena were forced to restrain an obviously angered Westbrook.

After the game, the Wizards point-guard spoke about the incident.

“This s*** is getting out of hand, especially for me,” Westbrook said.

“Just, the amount of disrespect… fans doing whatever the f*** they wanna do. It’s out of pocket, man. It’s out of pocket.”

LeBron James, Skip Bayless among those who condemned Sixers fan for throwing popcorn

After the game, LeBron James said he “wants to see” who the fan was who poured popcorn on Westbrook’s head.

“By the way WE AS THE PLAYERS wanna see who threw that popcorn on Russ while he was leaving the game tonight with an injury,” LeBron tweeted.

“There’s cameras all over arenas so there’s no excuse! Because if the shoe was on the other foot…”

ESPN analyst Skip Bayless also took to Twitter to show his support for Westbrook.

He tweeted: “Sure, part of me wishes Russell Westbrook could’ve been allowed to go after the fan who dumped popcorn on him and send a message to all fans: THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. But obviously the law and league won’t allow that. So at least the fan was removed and hopefully be banned.”

At the time of writing, the fan has not been named or publicly identified.

The Sixers are known for having one of the most passionate fanbases in the league, but this is undeniably a step too far.

76ers announce they’ve banned the fan

On Thursday, the 76ers announced they have banned the fan from future games at Wells Fargo:

“After an investigation into the incident that occurred at last night’s game, we have determined that the person involved will have his season ticket membership revoked, effectively immediately.

“In addition, he will be banned from all events at Wells Fargo Center indefinitely.

“We apologize to Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards for being subjected to this type of unacceptable and disrespectful behavior. there is no place for it in our sport or arena.”
