Former NBA star recently spoke out about bike accident
The former No 2 overall pick recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about the bike crash in January 2021 that left him paralysed. Bradley spoke about the collision that occurred with a Dodge minivan near his home in St George, Utah.
The crash threw 7ft 6in Bradley head-first into the road, cracking his crash helmet. He spent three weeks in the ICU but doctors couldn’t prevent serious injury to his spine. He was paralysed from the chest down and has been wheelchair-bound since.
Bradley bravely spoke about the incident with SI, admitting he’d had suicidal thoughts. “Maybe it’d be better if this was just all over,” Bradley told the publication. “Yes, those thoughts creep in – and they’re real. I can’t ever imagine myself acting on those thoughts, but I definitely have them.”
Who is Shawn Bradley’s first wife, Annette Evertson?
The former NBA star is being cared for by his wife Carrie Cannon Bradley (more on her in a minute) but some people are curious about Shawn Bradley’s first wife, Annette Evertson.
Shawn Bradley met Annette Evertson at a Mormon church in Philadelphia and hit it off straight away. They dated for several months and married in 1993. The couple had six children – daughters Chelsea, Ciera, Charity and Cheyenne and sons Chase and Chance.
Evertson was with Bradley throughout his 12-year NBA career and is often credited for helping him get through dark times. The couple’s height difference was often a talking point – Annette is 5ft 3in, a whole 2ft 3in shorter than Shawn.
Bradley’s divorce with Annette Evertson
However, after almost 25 years of marriage Shawn and Annette split up. The reasons surrounding Bradley and Evertson’s divorce are unknown but is believed to have happened around 2017.
More on Carrie Cannon, Shawn’s current wife
Shawn Bradley is now married to Carrie Cannon after they tied the knot in January 2018. Carrie has three children from a previous relationship, Haylie, Dubbie and Max, and Shawn has become a doting father figure.

Carrie has been at Shawn’s side since the accident last year. A statement by Shawn’s former team, the Dallas Mavericks, read: “With his wife Carrie at his side around the clock and supported by an amazing team of rehabilitation specialists and family, Bradley is in good spirits.
“He plans to use his accident as a platform to bring greater public awareness to the importance of bicycle safety.”
