As Towns Sr and Tee Morant have fun on the sidelines we find out more about KAT’s dad, Karl-Anthony Towns Sr, and his relationship with his son.
The Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves are currently locked in an enthralling first-round playoff series split 1-1.
On the sidelines, Karl-Anthony Towns Sr (KAT’s dad) and Tee Morant (Ja Morant’s father) are stealing the show, so let’s find out more about the Timberwolves stars’ pops.
Karl-Anthony Towns Sr and Tee Morant enjoying the T-Wolves vs Grizz series
Towns Sr and Tee Morant have been enjoying their sons battling it out on court but on their sidelines the dads are providing just as much entertainment.
During Game 2, they spoke to NBA TV sideline reporter Chris Haynes and exchanged a little trash-talk.
“They get a little lead, now they want to talk,” KAT Sr said.
“We gave them the first win, so y’all would feel like y’all was in the playoffs,” Morant responded.
“Y’all aint never won in the playoffs, so welcome back,” KAT Sr jibed back.
During Game 1, the dads also revealed a wager: if the No. 2-seeded Grizzlies win, Towns Sr will wear a Ja Morant jersey, and if the No. 7-seeded Timberwolves win, Morant will wear a Karl-Anthony Towns jersey.
What we know about Karl-Anthony Towns’ dad
The T-Wolves big man was born in Edison, New Jersey, to African-American father Karl Towns Sr and Dominican mother Jacqueline Cruz.
Tragically, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns was diagnosed with covid-19 in March 2020 and died on 13 April 2020 aged 58. Towns has lost seven more family members to the virus since then, including his grandmother, NBC News reports.
Karl-Anthony Towns Sr also caught the virus but recovered and in May 2021 attended his first NBA game since his wife passed away. On Mother’s Day 2021, father and son shared an emotional embrace.
Towns Sr celebrated his son becoming an All-Star
KAT Sr regularly attends his son’s games and in February 2022 was spotted celebrating Towns Jr’s selection to his third All-Star Game.
The 2022 All-Star reserves were announced during a game between the Timberwolves and Pistons, which Towns Sr was at. He was checking his phone throughout the game and, when the news came through, looked a seriously proud dad:
After such a difficult time for the family, it’s great to see KAT and his father so close.
