Former LA Lakers player Dennis Schroder has signed with the Boston Celtics according to reports. Twitter reacted to him turning down an $84 million deal with his former franchise, and wondered who Schroder’s agent is?
Former Lakers man signs with the Boston Celtics
Yesterday (10 August), reports confirmed free agent Dennis Schroder was heading to the Boston Celtics.
According to ESPN, the point guard is signing a year one deal that will be for the $5.9 million taxpayer midlevel exception (MLE).
However, Schroder reportedly wants the full MLE, which is $12.9 million, and a second-year player option. The Celtics don’t want to be pressed to exceed the cap, one report says.
“I’m proud to announce that for the 2021-22 season I’ll be playing for the Boston Celtics!” Schroder wrote on Instagram. “This is one of the best franchises in NBA history and it will be a honour to put on the green and white and do what I love! I’m going out there every night and leaving it all on the floor for the city!! Who’s ready?”

Dennis Schroder turns down $84 million
Schroder is in a “state of shock” over how things played out.
In March, he rejected an $84 million contract extension from the Lakers.
He reportedly believed he would get $100 million in free agency.
Schroder had a pretty mediocre playoffs (much like the Lakers), meaning any big potential offers in free agency quickly went away.
That wasn’t helped by the fact the Lakers traded for Russell Westbrook and other veteran stars, essentially closing the door for Schroder to return.
The point guard ended up scrambling around the league for offers, and was left rueing the small fortune he left on the table with the Lakers.
