Inside the NBA features host Ernie Johnson alongside Hall of Famers Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, and NBA champion Kenny Smith. However, on the latest show (21 December) Ernie and Charles were missing.
Candace Parker and Kevin Frazier step in for Ernie and Chuck
On Tuesday’s show, Entertainment Tonight co-host Kevin Frazier stepped in as host to replace Ernie Johnson. Reigning WNBA champion Candace Parker filled in for Charles Barkley.
It was a busy night in the NBA, headlined by the LA Lakers vs the Phoenix Suns, which the Suns won 108-90. The panel was in great form. However, a number of regular viewers wondered where Ernie and Charles were.
Where were Ernie and Charles on Inside the NBA last night?
During the pre-game show, host Kevin Frazier revealed Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley were missing because they were “out there in health and safety protocol.”
Frazier said the league was struggling with player availability and so too was the Inside the NBA studio. Frazier wished Ernie and Charles “good health” before Kenny shouted out a number of other crew members from the studio who are also in the health and safety protocol.

Do Charles and Ernie Johnson have covid?
We don’t know for certain whether Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson have covid, but it’s likely they do given they are in health and safety protocol.
Charles has spoken passionately about vaccines before. “Yes, I’m vaccinated,” Barkley said earlier this year. “Everybody should be vaccinated. Period.”
Ernie Johnson has never officially revealed his vaccination status. However, it’s highly probable all the Inside the NBA members are vaccinated so they can work in such close proximity. Ernie was seen with his son Michael in January as the the 32-year-old received his vaccine.
Michael Johnson was born with a progressive form of muscular dystrophy that caused respiratory issues and required the use of a ventilator. He died at the age of 33 in October, and Ernie took to social media to express his gratitude at witnessing “a miraculous 33 years with Michael”:
