Kendrick Perkins and others recently spoke out in support of Tee Morant and LaVar Ball amid online criticism from some sections of NBA Twitter.

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies are hooping right now. The talented young Memphis squad is taking it to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals, with the series split 1-1.

Morant has had a sensational season, becoming an All-Star for the first time as well as being named the NBA’s Most Improved Player. He also dropped a playoff-high 47 points in Game 2, joining LeBron James and Kobe Bryant as the only players in history to record multiple 45-point playoff games before the age of 23.

Some fans have been calling out Ja’s dad, Tee Morant

One of the most entertaining sideshows throughout these NBA playoffs as been the emergence of Ja’s dad, Tee Morant, who is becoming a celebrity in his own right.

Tee has recently been spotted rubbing shoulders with doppelgänger Usher on the sidelines, as well as having a fun back and forth with Karl Anthony-Towns’ father throughout the Timberwolves series.

He’s also provided some genuinely entertaining interviews, and it’s been refreshing to see a father being so supportive of a son he is so clearly very proud of.

Most people have seen Ja and Tee’s relationship as something wholesome to celebrate. However, there has been a minority of online commentators criticising the elder Morant.

Some have suggested he is trying to steal his son’s limelight, while others have labelled him ‘annoying’ or ‘overbearing’. Comparisons have also been made between Tee Morant and LaVar Ball – LaMelo and Lonzo Ball’s father who is famously supportive of his family too.

However, many people, including former NBA player turned ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, have clapped back at the Tee Morant and LaVar Ball criticisms. He, among others, has noted how refreshing it is to see supportive fathers, and that it is something that should be celebrated rather than derided.

Ja Morant responds to criticism of his father

Ja Morant caught wind of the criticism of his father, and responded online.

The Memphis Grizzlies star quote retweeted a post in relation to his father. The post read: ‘Hating on Ja Morant for being an active Twitter user just like you and having fun on the court is so weird but hating on his dad for just vibing, watching his son play basketball, and respecting other NBA greats is even weirder. Sports fans just want something to be mad about.’

Ja simply said, ‘f* em we ball’, followed by a ‘tm’ sign which represents his father’s initials.

So far Ja and the Grizzlies have done a great job in sounding out the background noise during this series. They take on the Warriors in Game 3 in San Francisco on Saturday.

Do you think the Grizzlies can win the series? Or will the Warriors be too much for them? Let us know in the comments below!
