The Philadelphia 76ers clinched the no.1 seed in the East after a 122-97 win against the Orlando Magic on Friday.

Who is Sam Hinkie?

Sam Hinkie is an American sports executive who served as the general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers from 2013 to 2016.

As GM, Hinkie was responsible for trading away several veterans. The 76ers essentially tanked three straight seasons in order to obtain high draft picks, of which Joel Embiid was one.

During that time, Hinkie adopted the “trust the process” mantra.

The term is used when describing the organisation’s rebuilding job and long-term hopes of winning a championship.

So far it has underwhelmed, but this year there’s a growing belief that the The Process can take the 76ers all the way.

Joel Embiid’s message to Sam Hinkie

With the 76ers locking up the 1 seed in the East, it appears Hinkie’s mantra is slowly bearing fruit.

Paying tribute to the man that started it all, Joel Embiid gave a shout-out to Hinkie during his post-game interview on Friday.

The hard work starts now

Both the 76ers and Embiid know they still have a lot of work to do.

The strength of The Process will be tested fully during the playoffs; despite having home court advantage, the 76ers will have to overcome a certain three-headed monster in Brooklyn if they’re to reach the Finals.

After the game against Orlando, Joel Embiid posted a message on Twitter stating that the ‘real fun starts now.’
