In the Grizzlies’ recent matchup with the Golden State Warriors, Ja Morant hilariously stared down a ‘disrespectful’ kid who was wearing a Warriors jersey. He refused to high-five the young fan but later apologised and promised to make it up to him.
The 22-year-old emerging superstar is currently leading his team to a top-four seed in the Western Conference. Earlier in the season, the Suns, Warriors and Jazz seemed to be the clear strongest teams out West but Ja and the Grizz are slowly putting themselves in contention.
Fresh off beating the Lakers, Morant led his Grizzlies to a big win on Tuesday night against the Warriors. The mercurial point guard finished with 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting as Memphis won 116-108.
Ja Morant refuses to high-five kid wearing Warriors jersey
However, despite the eight-point difference the game was a seriously close affair in the fourth quarter. That’s when Ja turned things on, driving to the basket and finishing off a tough layup with 30 seconds to go. Morant was fouled on the play, and it pretty much sealed the W for Memphis.
Visibly pumped by the play, Ja turned to the fans where he encountered a young fan wearing a Warriors jersey. With game-mode fully activated, Morant refused to high-five the young kid. Check it out.
Ja Morant jokes about ‘disrespectful’ kid to reporters
After the game, Ja Morant joked the fan had made a mistake by wearing the wrong jersey. Speaking to reporters, Morant said: “He was disrespectful with that jersey on. We Memphis. It looked like he wanted to cheer, but he had that jersey on. I apologised to him but, in that moment bro, take that jersey off and then dap me up.”
However, Morant added he wanted to track down the young fan so he could send him a Memphis jersey. “Somebody find his information. I’ll send him one myself,” he said per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
Hopefully that will more than make things up to the young kid Ja Morant stared down.
Ja later replied to the incident on Twitter apologising but saying that he was just too locked in.
The Grizzlies point guard has the most spectacular dunk
Ja is one of the most competitive and athletic guys in the league. He recently had a play-of-the-year contender vs the Lakers, with his physics-defying chase down block on Avery Bradley
In the first quarter of the Grizzlies game vs the Lakers, Morant chased Bradley down, jumping from out of nowhere to not only block the shot but catch it with two hands in mid-air. It was a breath-taking play that further demonstrated Ja’s elite athleticism.
