‘Free Bol Bol’ started trending recently. People took to social media to share their frustrations at the Nuggets big man barely seeing any minutes.
Bol Bol has cultivated a strong following among NBA fans since being drafted with the 44th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Not only is he the son of former NBA favorite Manute Bol, his unique 7ft 2in frame has garnered attention from hardcore and casual fans alike.
Bol Bol doesn’t seem fancied by Mike Malone
Bol Bol has struggled for playing time this season, even when Nikola Jokic has been out. NBA fans have had enough and the ‘Free Bol Bol’ movement has already started.
In the absence of reigning MVP, many felt this would be the time for Bol Bol to assert himself in the Nuggets rotation. Michael Malone is somewhat notorious for running a short rotation and has preferred to trust his established veterans over emerging stars.
However, against the Pacers a week ago, Bol received a DNP-CD. He did feature against the Mavericks more recently, though, finishing with seven points and proving what a useful weapon he can be.
Still, it clearly didn’t impress Mike Malone that much as he’s barely had any minutes since. His playing time against Portland recently appeared to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for Nuggets fans.
Free Bol Bol trends after limited minutes vs Blazers
Last night, the Nuggets got blown out by the Blazers, losing 119-110. The game was pretty much over by the second half, but Bol Bol still only got one minute of playing time at the end.
Even with injuries to Michael Porter Jr. and PJ Dozier, Bol still didn’t get a look-in in the rotation, and NBA fans have clearly had enough.
They vented their frustrations on social media and started the ‘Free Bol Bol’ hashtag in order to get the big man more minutes.
Clearly a lot of fans think Bol Bol should move onto pastures new and seek a trade.
Where that would be is anyone’s guess. But it’s pretty obvious that if he can’t get minutes now when the Nuggets are depleted, he probably never will.
Free Bol Bol, indeed.
