Did Adreian Payne have kids?

Adreian Payne is the father of four-year-old son Amari, ESPN reports.

In September 2021, the former NBA player revealed Amari had to undergo an ETV procedure of the brain. He also noted that, due to the procedure, he would be taking a break from basketball.

“Amari is four years old and means the world to me,” Payne shared on Twitter. “I ask for your prayers to help cover him like the blanket he loves so much as he goes through this process and healing.

“I will be back to doing what I love soon. Basketball has my heart, Amari is my heartbeat.”

Amari has since stayed out of the public eye.

Late NBA star’s family life

Adreian Payne sadly lost his own mother, Gloria, when he was just 13 years old.

According to Bleacher Report, Gloria had been cooking fried chicken for Payne when she became overwhelmed by smoke. Due to suffering from asthma, she put her head out of a window for air but collapsed. Adreian said she passed away in his arms. She was 41.

As for Payne’s father, Thomas, he hadn’t initially played a huge role in Adreian’s life but his presence grew after Gloria passed. “I kept tabs on him. We were close then and we still are. But his mom was the rock. She was the anchor,” Thomas once shared.

The late basketball star was also close his grandmother, Mary Lewis, who became his guardian after his mother died. “I could’ve gotten my hands on anything. It would’ve been so easy. But my grandma made sure that didn’t happen. She made sure I knew right from wrong,” he once said.

Following news of Adreian’s death, former MSU teammate Anthony Ianni shared: “The one thing that comforts me a little bit with his passing is that he’s not just reunited with his mom, who he lost as a kid. He’s not just reunited with his grandmother, who he lost just before the start of my senior year. But he’s reunited with (Princess) Lacey. And I think that’s the one thing that may comfort a lot of people during this tragedy.”

Lacey Holsworth, nicknamed Princess Lacey, was an eight-year-old girl who sadly lost her battle with cancer in 2014.

IN 2011, Adreian Payne met Lacey for the first time during a hospital visit, and the two quickly forged a close bond. Payne would frequently visit Holsworth in hospital and often flew her out to watch his games in Michigan, New York and other areas across the country. The pair remained close until Lacey’s passing.
