Damian Lillard’s future in Portland is shrouded in uncertainty right now. After the 6x NBA All-Star was spotted at an LA Sparks game with LeBron James recently, Twitter went into overdrive at the prospect of Dame joining the Lakers.
Disappointing end to the season for Dame and the Trail Blazers
Damian Lillard has not exactly requested a trade from the Trail Blazers, but it’s fair to say his Portland future has never been more uncertain than it is right now.
Dame first fuelled speculation of his departure when the Blazers crashed out of this year’s playoffs. Lillard has only reached the Conference Finals once during his career, and this season’s first-round loss to the Denver Nuggets was a bitter setback.
“Obviously, where we are isn’t good enough to win a championship if it’s not good enough to get out of a first-round series with two of their best three or four players not on the floor,” Lillard told reporters at the time.

Damian Lillard’s future with Portland now up in the air
Lillard’s status in Portland wasn’t helped by reports from Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, who said Lillard might request a trade because of the “enormous backlash” over Portland’s coaching search.
He also said Lillard had “concerns on whether a championship contender” can be built by the organisation.
That same day, the Blazers announced Chauncey Billups as their new head coach.
The cumulative effect of these incidents has certainly not been ideal for the Trail Blazers.
Lillard spotted at LA Sparks game with LeBron
The 2021-22 season will mark the first year of the four-year, $176.3 million extension Lillard signed in July 2019.
However, when the All-Star point guard was spotted with LeBron at a recent LA Sparks game, Twitter went into overdrive about a potential trade.
The Lakers are coming off an injury-blighted season where they went out of the playoffs in the first round at the hands of Phoenix.
It was a disappointing title defence from the reigning NBA champions, who have some difficult decisions to make this off-season.
The Lakers’ front office will be well aware this is probably LeBron’s last push for a ring and to create a championship-winning roster they will have to make some major moves.
Adding Damian Lillard would certainly put them back in the ‘contender’ conversation.

LeBron and Lillard seen together sparks huge Twitter reaction
On seeing the photo of the two together, NBA Twitter reached one conclusion: Dame Lillard to the Lakers, incoming.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Lakers have enough tradable assets to make a serious push for Lillard.
On the surface it appears not, but if anyone can pull it off, LeGM can.
