What happened to Cameron Payne’s black eye? Social media reacts to Cam Payne’s eye injury during Suns vs Lakers game, while praising him for his performance after being out of the league.

Cameron Payne got ejected in Game 1

Cam Payne has had an eventful series so far against the Lakers.

In Game 1 he was ejected after getting into it with Alex Caruso off the ball, which resulted in Payne launching the ball at the Laker.

Montrezl Harrell then sprinted from the other side of the court and held Payne back.

Payne was subsequently ejected and given an early exit, per the NBA’s rules.

What happened to Cameron Payne’s eye? How did he get a black eye?

A question on everyone’s lips during Game 2 on Tuesday night was Cameron Payne’s black eye.

At one point during the game, a camera zoomed in on Payne to show the full extent of the injury.

However, given there was no incident on the court, people assumed something must have happened over the last few days.

It still remains a mystery as to how he got the black eye as there are no reports indicating what happened.

One fan thought it could have been the altercation with Harrell in Game 1 although this is unconfirmed.

Cameron Payne’s college and interesting career arc

Cameron Payne attended Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tennessee. While there, the now 26-year old grew from 5ft 5in as a freshman to 6ft as a senior.

In 2015 he was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 14th overall pick.

He struggled to make an impact though and left the NBA in 2019 to play in China with the Shanxi Loongs, before returning to the G-League with the Texas Legends in 2020.

Now he’s with the Suns and performing well in the NBA playoffs.

Social media reacts to Cameron Payne’s stellar night against the Lakers

Despite the 102-109 defeat, Cam Payne had a stellar night against the Lakers in Game 2, finishing with 19 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds off the bench.

Twitter was full of praise for Payne’s performance, and in particular his return to the NBA after being out of the league for several years.
