After stand-out performances in the NBA Finals we take a look at Andrew Wiggins’ dad Mitchell, who played in the NBA, and his mom, Marita, who won an Olympic silver medal.
Being the No.1 overall pick in the NBA draft brings a huge weight of expectation. While nobody was dubbing Andrew Wiggins a ‘bust’ after his time in Cleveland and Minnesota, it was fair to say he hadn’t lived up to his billing.
However, the Canadian has revitalised his career after landing in Golden State and, despite playing in the same team as Steph Curry, is making a case for himself as Finals MVP.
Warriors man excels in Game 5 win
Wiggins finished Game 5 of the Finals vs the Boston Celtics with 26 points on 12-of-23 shooting, with 13 rebounds, two steals, two assists and one block as the Warriors won 104-94 to take a 3-2 series lead.
The 27-year-old was the spark the Warriors desperately needed as Steph Curry had an uncharacteristically bad night from beyond the arc, missing all nine of his three-point attempts.
Wiggins has also been a menace on the defensive end throughout the series and a nightmare match-up for Jayson Tatum.
The former Kansas Jayhawk held Boston to 7-of-16 shooting while leading the Warriors in both scoring and rebounding, the first time he has ever done so.
