Bubba Wallace has become a NASCAR winner at Talladega -–but who is the 23XI Racing driver? Where was he born, who are his parents and who is he engaged to?
Who is Bubba Wallace?
Wallace was born on 8 October 1993 in Mobile, Alabama, the same state where Talladega Superspeedway is located.
Having made his way through the junior ranks of NASCAR, he made his full-time Cup debut at the 2018 Daytona 500 – taking second place.
Ahead of 2021, he moved to 23XI Racing, backed by Michael Jordan and current Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin.
After a tough start, Wallace has improved as the season has gone on.
Always strong on superspeedways, he fought his way to the front at Talladega as the rain closed in.
The rain fell during a caution period, and steadily got heavier.
After attempts to dry the track failed, NASCAR declared the race, handing Wallace his maiden Cup win.
He is the first black driver to win in the NASCAR Cup Series since Wendell Scott in 1963.
