We find out more about Lewis Hamilton’s sisters Nicola and Samantha after the Formula One star received his knighthood at Windsor Castle

Just days after his Formula One disappointment, Sir Lewis Hamilton was knighted at Windsor Castle by Prince Charles. The 36-year-old recently lost the F1 World Championship under controversial circumstances to rival Max Verstappen.

Hamilton is the fourth F1 driver to be knighted, following Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart. The Mercedes star was joined at the ceremony by his mother, Carmen Lockhart.

Who is Lewis Hamilton’s mother, Carmen Lockhart?

Interestingly, Lewis Hamilton has two mothers, although his biological mum is Carmen Lockhart, who previously went by the surname Larbalestier. Carmen was born in 1955 and gave birth to Lewis in 1985, during which time she was in a relationship with Lewis’ father, Anthony.

Lewis was raised by his mum until he was 12 years old, along with half-sisters Nicola and Samantha. After that, he moved in with his father Anthony, stepmother Linda, and his half-brother Nicolas.

Hamilton and his mum Carmen maintain a very close relationship, though, and she has been spotted at various Grand Prix over the years.

Speaking about her break-up with Anthony, Carmen once told The Sun: “Lewis was the best thing to come out of my marriage. [The split] didn’t damage Lewis. He is probably better for it than if we had stuck together in an unhappy marriage.

“Tony wanted to be somebody and he has achieved that. I wanted the quiet life and that put a barrier between us. I couldn’t see myself in that busy, hectic lifestyle.

More on Lewis Hamilton’s sisters

When Lewis Hamilton was 12, he and his half-sisters Nicola and Samantha went to live with his dad and step-mum, Linda. Nicola and Samantha are the product of Lewis’ mum Carmen’s second marriage, and were close to Lewis growing up in Sandy, Bedfordshire.

One of Lewis’ sisters has a son, Kaiden, who is Lewis’ nephew. Hamilton was criticised in 2017 when he appeared to mock Kaiden for wearing a pink and purple dress on Christmas Day. Lewis went on to wear a kilt for GQ magazine saying he wanted to “make amends” for his insensitivity.

He is also close with step-mum Linda Hamilton

Lewis is also very close with his step-mum, Linda Hamilton, who he moved in with when he was 12. Dad Anthony had already been with Linda for two years before Lewis eventually moved in. Linda was actively involved in Lewis’s upbringing.

Linda is the birth mum of Lewis’ half-brother, Nicolas, who was born with cerebral palsy. Nicholas has been a constant source of inspiration for Lewis throughout his career and is a racing driver himself.

Much like Lewis’ biological mother, Linda Hamilton has been spotted supporting her step-son during race weekends, and the pair are very close.
