Meet Sebastian Vettel’s parents Norbert and Heike Vettel ahead of his final race in F1 in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

Sebastian Vettel’s final race in Formula One is here. The four-time F1 World Champion is retiring at the end of the 2022 season, which culminates at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.

Vettel made his F1 debut in 2007 and currently drives for Aston Martin. The German won four titles with Red Bull between 2010-2013 before joining Ferrari in 2015. He stayed with the Scuderia until 2020, joining Aston Martin the following year.

What we know about Sebastian Vettel’s parents

Sebastian Vettel’s parents are Norbert and Heike Vettel, and is the third of four children with two older sisters and a younger brother.

Both Seb’s parents supported their son’s formative years in motorsport, doing so while Norbert worked as a carpenter while Heike was a housewife. Norbert was a racing enthusiast who raced in Auto Slalom and other events, and often worked on Seb’s karts when he was a kid.

The family would live in a caravan, and travel across Germany with Seb so he could take part in races. Both Norbert and Heike have often been at Seb’s races in the past, as well as their other son Fabian’s races.

Seb’s dad pays tribute ahead of his retirement

Ahead of the final race of Seb’s career, his father Norbert did something extra special.

F1 journalist Will Buxton wrote on Twitter: “Norbert Vettel has surprised Seb by bringing his very first race suit to his final GP. Really emotional moment between the two in the garage just now as Seb saw it hanging up.”

“Obviously, it’s a long time ago but still when I saw the suit, obviously, there were some memories that took me back straight to 1995,” said Vettel.

“It’s been a while but it’s very nice.”

Norbert is in Abu Dhabi this weekend supporting his son on what’s sure to be an emotional day. He even stopped to have a brief chat with Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle on the grid before the race.
