How much prize money does Max Verstappen get for winning the F1 world title?

Max Verstappen claimed a thrilling maiden world championship in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but how do you get for being the F1 championship winner?

It all had to end on the final lap, didn’t it?

A late race safety car bunched the field up at Abu Dhabi, with Red Bull opting to pull Verstappen in for fresh soft tyres, while Hamilton stayed out with worn hards.

It all boiled down to a final lap restart at Yas Marina, as Verstappen muscled past at Turn 5 and defended against Hamilton.

He crossed the line first to take a maiden world title – and the first for Red Bull since Sebastian Vettel in 2013.

But how much prize money does Verstappen get for winning the F1 world title?

Max Verstappen F1 championship winner money revealed

The F1 world champion does not receive a ‘winner’s fee’ as it were from the series itself for claiming the championship.

Instead, Verstappen’s prize money will come from bonuses in his Red Bull contract.

It would include things like winning the championship. winning the race and taking pole position.

Verstappen picked up 10 wins and 10 poles on his way to the 2021 crown.

The details of his contract with Red Bull are not in the public domain.

What is known however, is that he is paid around $18.5 million per year as a base salary.

What about Mercedes and the constructors money?

Mercedes run as septuple double world champions came to an end in Abu Dhabi as Verstappen sneaked the title.

They are the only team to ever win seven straight drivers’ and constructors’ crowns.

For winning the constructors’ crown, Mercedes receives a hefty reward.

Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas’s efforts will scoop the team north of $100 million from F1 for being the winners of the constructors’ championship.

This is made up of historic payments, sponsor fees and position in the championship.
