She has worked alongside the seven-time world champion for nearly six years, but who is Angela Cullen, and how did she come to work with Lewis Hamilton?

Cullen first started working with Hamilton back in 2016, when he was ‘just’ a three-time world champion.

Born in New Zealand, Cullen came through the Hintsa Performance Company.

Founded by the late Dr. Aki Hintsa, the company offers high performance coaching and services to athletes.

Dr. Hintsa first worked with Hamilton back in his rookie F1 season of 2007, at McLaren.

After the Finn’s death just before the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton ran with a tribute on his helmet during the weekend.

Cullen is responsible for Hamilton’s well-being and physical status during the season.

She can be often seen standings beside Hamilton’s car when it is in the garage, ensuring all is well before a run.

What does Hamilton say about Angela Cullen partnership?

Since their partnership began in 2016, Hamilton has won 56 grands prix and four world titles.

The Briton, who will start 11th after a 10-place grid penalty for the Turkish Grand Prix, has praised Cullen for the effect her work has had on him.

“I’ve been fortunate to work with a lot of people, and she’s the single hardest-working woman that I get to be around,” he explained in 2020.

“When you come into Formula 1, there’s this whole idea of physios, but a lot of them, or some of them, are just trainers.

“They still take on the title of ‘physio’ – but a physio is a physiotherapist, and for years, I’d always had a male trainer, but I noticed that I was always having different problems.

“Whatever it might be, my trainer could never fix it.

“Angela had done a bit of work on me back home, so I spoke to her and asked her, ‘Would you like to come on the road with me?’”

“Little did I know that we would have the greatest partnership.”
